木推瓜，这支中国最为惊世骇俗的前卫摇滚乐队，初创于1998年，2000年正式稳固阵容。他们的作品《哆嗦哆》、《钢铁是怎样没有炼成的》是中国摇滚在世纪之交的代表性杰作；张晓舟曾形容他们“制造了中国摇滚最令人不安的声音”。
犹记当年的木推瓜一如怀揣悲悯的猛兽，既荒诞又贴近现实，带给人从毛孔到灵魂的震颤：
“他们讽刺、鞭挞、侮辱、吊唁，驾轻就熟又信手拈来，如羚羊挂角般毫无做作的痕迹，轻描淡写地将丑恶的现实和美好的理想在音乐的熔炉里铸成了一座丰碑。”

木推瓜的音乐风格大体是在艺术摇滚的基础上保持着硬摇滚的粗粝与早期朋克无所顾忌的姿态，音色和结构也常呈现未来主义特征。唱腔如刀刃一般，游走在摇滚与歌剧的边缘；吉他贝斯走向暴烈疯狂，又内含自省；鼓则隆隆前驱，摧枯拉朽……整体上大开大阖，戏剧感强烈，酒神、批判、悲剧、讽喻的精神混杂其中，彰显迸射。
乐队沉寂十余载，而其实近七八年来，重组之事一直在缓慢推进。去年夏天机缘到了，原班人马一拍即合。关于重组，乐队如是说：“摇滚乐，不管内在精神与外在声响，既要有冷兵器时代弓弩激射的劲力，也要充分利用热兵器时代的火力，这不，尘封十五年的克虏伯大炮再度上膛了!”
而重出江湖的“木推瓜”的方向，主唱宋雨喆说：“如果我们只做回忆中的木推瓜，也许早出了十几年前的那版分轨录音。现在大张旗鼓地重组，那就不是单纯拷贝热血上涌的青春，否则我还不如守着大忘杠[1]就行了。”

As one of the most astonishing progressive rock band in Chinese music scene, Wood Pushing Melon (WPM) was found in 1998 and had their lineup settled in 2000. Their songs“Do-Sol-Do（《哆嗦哆》）” and “How the Steel Was Not Tempered（《钢铁是怎样没有炼成的》）” were representative masterpieces of that period in China. “They created the most unsettling sound of Chinese rock”, said Zhang Xiaozhou.
Back in those days when we can still recall, WPM was a beast with a heart full of compassion, absurd yet real, shocking the listeners from inside out:
“Mocking, lashing, insulting and mourning, within their music they effortlessly cast ugly reality with beautiful dreams into a great monument.”
“WPM is a master at using simplest yet most destructive imageries to interpret the most straightforward emotions, which endows their songs with power beyond expression.”

“They’re one of those very few who don’t follow the 4/4 rules yet can still hammer the audience into submission.”
Based on art rock, music style of WPM keeps both the roughness of hard rock and cynical attitude of earlier punk, with traces of futurism shown on the tune color and structure of their works. Their blade-like singing walks the edge of rock and opera, and the raging trends of guitar and bass are fierce yet filling with introspection, while their drums rolling along like crushing dry weeds and smashing rotten wood.
The band had been disappeared from public for more than a decade. Until last summer, thanks to the efforts of all members, they finally decided to come back together. Talking about the band’s new direction, vocal Song Yuzhe says, “If we tend to reproduce WPM as the way it was, we would have published the old recordings long ago. Now as we reunited and returned with pride, it would be way more than just coping our teen impulse, otherwise I’d rather stay focusing on Dawanggang（大忘杠）[1]. ”
