Live Electronics

Sarah Davachi(1987 年生于加拿大)是一位作曲家兼演奏家。

Sarah Davachi (b. 1987, Canada) is a composer and performer whose work is concerned with the close intricacies of timbral and temporal space, utilizing extended durations and alternate tuning systems to underscore gradual variations in texture, harmonic complexity, intonation, and psychoacoustic phenomena.  Her compositions span solo, chamber ensemble, and acousmatic formats[1], incorporating a wide range of both acoustic and electronic instrumentation.  Similarly informed by minimalist and longform structures, early music concepts of intervallic relation and affect, as well as experimental production practices of the studio environment, in her sound is an intimate and patient experience that reconfigures perceptions of the familiar and the distant.

Alongside her acclaimed recordings, Davachi has toured and performed extensively; her work has been presented internationally by Southbank Centre (London), Barbican Centre (London), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The Getty Museum (Los Angeles), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Honen-in Temple (Kyoto), Temppeliaukio Church (Helsinki), Grace Cathedral (San Francisco), Chiesa di San Luigi dei Francesi (Rome), and Carriageworks (Sydney), among others. Her chamber ensemble work has been commissioned and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Brussels Philharmonic, the London Contemporary Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini, Chamber Choir Ireland, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Major recognitions include the Silver Lion award in 2026, given by La Biennale di Venezia, and a Libera award in 2023, given by the American Association of Independent Music. In 2020 she founded Late Music, an imprint within the partner labels division of Warp Records, which serves as a permanent home for her albums and recordings.

For over a decade, Davachi had the unique opportunity to work for the National Music Centre in Canada as a researcher and interpreter of their collection of acoustic and electronic keyboard instruments.  She holds a master's degree in electronic music from Mills College and a doctoral degree in musicology from UCLA (with a dissertation on timbre, phenomenology, and critical organology), and is based in Los Angeles, California, USA.

[1] Acousmatic format refers to electroacoustic music composed for fixed media (such as tape, CD, or digital files) and presented through loudspeakers, intentionally concealing the sound source. It focuses on "reduced listening," where the audience concentrates on sonic properties and timbre rather than the cause of the sound, often using multichannel diffusion to spatialize audio.
