Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth will present a curated screening from the documentary Put Blood in the Music (1989), directed by Charles Atlas. The selected Sonic Youth segment runs approximately 25–30 minutes.
Put Blood in the Music is a landmark documentary exploring the early 1980s downtown New York music scene. Through a collage of performance, interviews, and commentary, the film captures the creative energy and artistic pluralism that defined this influential cultural moment.
Following the screening, Shelley will participate in a live discussion reflecting on the era, including Sonic Youth’s work during that time and the broader artistic landscape of early 1980s New York City. The talk will offer firsthand insight into the band’s development and the experimental scene that shaped their sound and legacy.

Steve Shelley is best known as the drummer for alternative rock pioneers Sonic Youth. Shelley has been a driving force in the indie and experimental music scenes since the early 1980s. His dynamic drumming style has contributed to numerous projects, showcasing his versatility and commitment to pushing musical boundaries. He will also appear as the drummer for Orcutt Shelley Miller at this year's Tomorrow Festival.
